    RED RIVER

      RENEGADES

The Red River Renegades is another Texas First! It is a black-powder, muzzle-loading only gun club. It is chartered and sanctioned by the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA) and the Texas Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (TMLRA)

The club is located 4 miles east of Electra, Texas. Heading west on Highway 287 from Wichita Falls, you take the Business 287 exit, continue west until you see ""Old Gun Club Road"" on the right; turn and it is about ½ mile on the left. We have a covered firing line, club house, limited electricity but sorry, no running water as yet. In addition to the 100 yard firing line, we have a trap range, a skeet range and a sporting clay range.

There are two monthly shoots:

The second Sunday of each month is Shotgun Sunday. We usually shoot either trap or skeet and occasionally will shoot sporting clays.

The last Sunday of each month is Rifle/Handgun Sunday. We have aggregates for Bench, Percussion, Flintlock, Musket, Handgun (Pistol and Revolver), In-Line, Ladies, Juniors and Sub-Juniors.

Gun Safety, marksmanship, sportsmanship and fellowship are stressed.

Red River Renegades believe "There are no strangers at our gun range ––

Only friends we haven’t met yet."

HAPPY FALL!     HAPPY HALLOWEEN!     HAPPY TURKEY SHOOT!

Hope this newsletter finds everyone dusting off his or her gun and getting ready for the Turkey Shoot this weekend.  If you are going to camp, word is out that the gate will be open on Friday so all can set up to be ready to shoot bright and early Saturday morning. Marvin will not be out until Saturday so make sure you have enough supplies to get started shooting anyway.

I guess you noticed we added a re-entry choice to all targets. We thought that would be a nice addition for all you really serious shooters who might want to try to improve your score on certain targets. We will see what everyone thinks about this new format and, who knows, it may become a permanent thing. We are giving Walmart Gift Cards again for prizes for 1st and 2nd place and Game Hens for 3rd, back by popular demand. It seems that some had their feathers all ruffled last year, so to speak, so we decided to bring them back. The reason we went to gift cards, in case you don’t know the story, was because folks were winning multiple frozen turkeys but were having problems getting them home so we went to the gift cards. They are much easier to transport and you can get what you want with them. By the way, December is just around the corner bringing the joy of the Christmas Holiday and ……. Linda’s birthday…

We also have a new cook for our Saturday night feed. Ken Matlock has graciously agreed to cook the meat for us. Ken has been a club member for a while now.  He does catering and has cooked at several restaurants in Wichita Falls as well as owning his own restaurant. If you never went to Matlock’s in downtown Wichita Falls, you missed a treat. He now concentrates on his catering business and we are very lucky he had time to do this for us. Thank you Ken!!

We also want to let you know that we are going to have a limited snack bar. We will have breakfast as usual, but for lunch we will have beans and corn bread, or hotdogs. We will have soft drinks, water and coffee. It costs a lot to fully stock the snack bar and we are trying to be as economical as possible, but still serve you well. Besides, you want to save room for our good meal on Saturday night!

We just want to clarify that the correct date for the Turkey Shoot is Saturday, October 24th, and Sunday, October 25th. Shooting will end at noon on Sunday as always so we can get everything figured and all our shooters who travel, can get home in a timely manner. There was apparently a brochure that was sent out with no date on it for the shoot. So if you happened to get one of those, now you know when to show up.

One more thing we would like to address. Sunday, when we are trying to get everything figured, seems to be the time everyone wants to come in and visit or pay his or her tab. We would appreciate it very much if you would do that early or wait until we have everything finished. We will try to have someone take care of that while we are working, but if we don’t have any help, please bare with us. If we get sidetracked, mistakes could be made, we’d have to re-enter the information and then it could take longer to get everything ready; you get the idea. Thanks for everyone’s patience with us during this time.

If you noticed, our Sub-Junior match had three shooters that haven’t been here in a while. Danny and Angie Cantrell’s

grandsons are staying with them now. The boys’ mother is in training to serve our Country in the Army and their father

is already serving in Germany. The young Cantrells haven’t shot too much and the other shooter, our grandson Ethan,

has never shot. So the boys did some great shooting!!! Ya’ll older shooters better watch out!!!

Just a note to let you know Mike and Bobbie Pence’s grandson, Jordan is in the hospital in Fort Worth undergoing

chemotherapy treatment for leukemia. He has done this before, so it is not new to him or his family. He and his family

need our thoughts and prayers at this time.

“Jordan, we are all praying you get better real soon!!!”

Roger and Pat Fowler are the proud great-grandparents of Elijah Wade Henricks. His grandparents are

Jim and Lisa Pharris and parents are Skyler and Marie Pharris Henricks. He was born August 23, 2009.
